Caring for senior pets

Although age itself is not a disease, our pets’ medical needs do change as they get older! For senior pets, early detection of health changes can go a long way towards keeping them happy and healthy. Our veterinarians have extensive experience caring for senior and geriatric pets. We work proactively to identify and treat emerging health issues early, while they can be efficiently and effectively treated. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

SENIOR AND GERIATRIC PET CARE MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Bi-annual wellness visits
  • Routine lab work and age-related disease screening
  • Chronic pain management (ex. joint or bone disorders such as osteoarthritis)
  • Chronic condition management (ex. diabetes, cancer, organ disease)Nutrition and physical activity counseling to keep senior pets feeling their best!

The team at Mountainside has deep roots in the veterinary community. We work hand-in-hand with some of the area’s top specialists to provide cohesive advanced care for patients that require a specialist referral.

Living Better, for Longer

Some outward signs of aging—a sugar-kissed face or slower pace on walks—are obvious. But it’s important to remember that your pet’s body is also changing on the inside. Once they reach their golden years, pets are more likely to develop chronic health conditions that can become serious or life-threatening if untreated. Luckily,  thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, pets are living and thriving longer than ever!

Our goal when caring for senior and geriatric patients is not only to increase the length of their lifespan, but to improve the quality of their lives. That means giving you as many pain-free, healthy years as possible to enjoy with your furry friend.

Ask us about librela & Solensia!

Up to 80% of dogs and 70-90% of cats over 12 years old will exhibit clinical symptoms of osteoarthritis at some point in their lives. While arthritis can develop at any age for any number of reasons, senior and geriatric pets are more likely to experience arthritis-related pain and lifestyle changes. Ask us about how Librela and Solensia, two first-of-their-kind injectables, can help manage osteoarthritis pain and improve your pets' quality of life
